The Hartigan Cup, Senior Basketball Player of the Year
The Hartigan Cup is annually awarded to the Senior Basketball Player of the year on the occasion of the sixth year graduation in May. The winner of the Cup is publicly acknowledged to have contributed in a significant way to basketball in St Declan's College. The Cup is named after former teacher and principal at St Declan's College, Mr Liam Hartigan. Liam, as former coach of the Irish International Women's Team, and a hugely influencing force in Irish Basketball contributed hugely to the many successes in his reign at St Declans College. Liam has coached at every level in Irish Basketball from school to National League and been successful at each level. At St. Declan’s he developed players like Stephen McGuirk, Alan Conlon, Jim Liston, and Paul Butler. He took St. Declan’s Basketball Club from Men's First Division to the National League and was runner up in the National Cup and while he coached at St. Vincent’s in the National league, they finished second in the league and won the National Cup. He was Ireland Women’s Coach for 13 years in various international tournaments. He has tutored for Basketball Ireland and done clinics at various levels over the years. In 2015, Liam was inducted into the Basketball Ireland Coaches Hall of Fame. |
